Michael Ritchie, MJP’s Director of Education, has written the guide to the design of Student Housing and Housing for Young People for the new edition of the Metric Handbook launched this week. The Metric Handbook is the authoritative reference book of design data used by architects and designers worldwide.
The guide is written at a time of significant change in the funding of universities, with implications for the needs and expectations of students. Private developers have become major providers of accommodation, and students are becoming increasingly discerning as the range of options for accommodation expands.
The Metric Handbook is the major handbook of planning and design data for architects and architecture students
Michael’s guide reviews these key trends, describing the different styles of accommodation and implications for the ‘student experience’. The guide gives detailed information on design, including standards and legislation, to provide a sound basis for understanding this interesting building type.
The new 7th edition of the Metric Handbook is edited by Pamela Buxton and published by Architectural Press. It will be the fifth edition in which we have contributed to the student housing section, with Liz Pride having authored the original chapters.
