Liz Pride (MJP’s Director of Education) has written the guide to the design of student accommodation for the new edition of the Metric Handbook – the authoritative reference book of design data used by architects and designers worldwide.
Her guide is written at a time of significant change in the funding of universities, with implications for the needs and expectations of students. Private developers have become major providers of accommodation, and students are becoming increasingly discerning as the range of options for accommodation expands.
Liz’s guide reviews these key trends, describing the different styles of accommodation and their implications for the ‘student experience’.
The guide provides detailed information on design, including standards and legislation, forming a sound basis for understanding this interesting building type.
The new 4th edition of the Metric Handbook is edited by David Littlefield and will be published by Architectural Press/Elsevier in November 2011. It will be the third edition to which Liz Pride has contributed the section on student housing.
